From past to present
We can trace our origins back to the Great Gale of 1953 which decimated forests up and down the country. George Booth , an Agricultural Contractor from Alford, Aberdeenshire, bought two Clydesdale Horses to assist with the massive windblow clearance operation. In so doing , he added timber logging to his agricultural business.
G Booth & Sons
Business expanded over the years and in 1982 the firm became a partnership of G Booth & Sons.
Two years later the business purchased it’s first Scandinavian purpose built forwarder, the classic Brunnett 578 , to handle the increasing harvesting programme for Smiths Gore on Crown Estates , Tomintoul.
Following new investment and capacity in the pulp ,panel board and sawmilling sectors in the 1990’s G.Booth & Sons continued to reinvest in the business to meet the increased demand for professional high production timber harvesting.
Treetop Forestry Ltd
In 2005, following George Booth’s retirement and reflecting the large scale in which the company was now operating, G.Booth and Sons changed from a partnership to a Limited Company. Treetop Forestry was founded.
In 2006 Treetop Forestry Ltd became the U.K and Ireland sole agent for
Tigercat, the Canadian based manufacturer of off-road equipment primarily for the forestry industry.
We also became UK and Ireland agents for Logmax, the Swedish based manufacturer of timber harvesting heads.
In 2007 we added timber purchasing and marketing to our services provided to the forest industry.
To support our continued business growth we commissioned a purpose build workshop and Head Office at our Balmakewan Woodland site near Laurencekirk, Kincardineshire. Opening in 2010,
this facility has become the central hub of our business. Ideally placed for access, just ½ mile off the A90 Perth to Aberdeen trunk road, we run a workshop, harvester assembly production line , parts stores and administration offices.
In 2014 we became an agent for Clark Tracks. Based in Dumfries , Clark Track’s manufactures a wide range of forest machine wheel tracks.
Our business expanded further in 2015 when we were appointed U.K. agents for Waratah the New Zealand and Finland based company. Waratah design and manufacture forest harvesting and processing heads.
We also became UK agents for Olofsfors. Based in Sweden , Olofsfors manufacture a wide range of off road machine wheel tracks for the forestry industry.
